Newly sworn-in Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said Saturday that his government will continue to give priority to stable economic development and orderly adjustment of the city’s economic structure.
Chui, in his inaugural address as the fourth-term chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), pledged to push forward the city’s economic diversification.
“Adequate economic diversification is the inevitable choice and long-term strategy for the development of Macau’s economy,” Chui said.
Chui stressed the importance of the aim of establishing Macau as a world tourism and leisure center.
Macau is adjusting the scope of its gaming industry, promoting integrated tourism and cultivating new and emerging industries including the convention and exhibition business, he said.
Chui also said that Macau must secure its role as a business service platform for commercial and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, become thoroughly involved in international relations, and integrate local development into the nation’s overall growth.
Chui said he fully understood Macau people’s expectation for quality of life and healthy growth of the younger generation.
“We are accountable to prioritising the enhancement of people’s well-being, expediting the development to make Macuo a liveable city with favourable working environment,” he said.
