Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) Director Kou Peng Kuan says in a reply to a written interpellation by directly elected legislator Si Ka Lon that the government plans to set up an information platform from which the public can receive answers to their questions about the government’s policies.
Si, a local Fujianese community civic leader, says in his interpellation, which he submitted to the legislature in February, that the government’s information on its policies should be open to the public, adding that if citizens are able to access the information the goal of the government to become a “sunshine” administration could finally be reached.
In Cantonese, the term “sunshine” is used to describe transparent governance.
In response to Si’s interpellation, Kou said the government had continuously improved the way it announces its information. Si sent copies of the reply to the media on Tuesday.
Kou also said in the reply that the government had already drawn up plans on how to ensure that government information is transparent by setting up a platform where the public can consult and request information about government policies.
The director also said the government would revamp the government’s official website to make it more user-friendly.
