Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived at the local airport last night and was welcomed by Secretary for Administration and Justice Sónia Chan Hoi Fan and Portuguese Consul General Paulo Cunha Alves. Rebelo de Sousa, 70, arrived from Shanghai for a one-day tour of Macau that is part of his state visit to China.
According to the website of his office in Lisbon, the Portuguese head of state today will visit the Holy House of Mercy, the Portuguese School and Portugal’s Consulate General.
He will also meet with Chief Executive Chui Sai On at Government Headquarters and attend an afternoon reception hosted by the Portuguese Consulate-General and a dinner hosted by Chui. The visit is also planned to include a stroll from Largo do Senado to the St. Paul’s Ruins. Rebelo de Sousa will travel via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) to Hong Kong’s airport tonight for his flight back home.
Rebelo de Sousa’s visit to Macau is held ahead of the upcoming visit of Chui to Portugal later this month, when Macau’s CE will make his last official visit between May 11 and 19.
