The Health Bureau’s (SSM) Control of Communicable Diseases and Surveillance of Diseases Department Coordinator Leong Iek Hou has announced today that the local authorities have adjusted the facemask purchase scheme to include 30 facemasks per pack.
Sales of the 20th round of facemask sales begin from 31 July to 29 August.
A pack of 30 facemasks will cost MOP 24, as 10 facemasks cost MOP 8.
Children aged 5-8 can either choose to buy 1) 30 children’s facemasks, 2) 15 children’s facemasks and 15 adult facemasks or 3) 30 adult-sized facemasks.
Children aged 3-4 can either choose to buy 1) 15 children’s facemasks and 15 adult facemasks or 2) 30 adult-sized facemasks.
The SAR government guarantees a sufficient supply of facemasks during the period and appeals to the public to not have to buy them on the first day. Distribution points remain the same as the previous round of facemask sales.
When asked by reporters why the government’s facemask purchase scheme had been adjusted, Leong said that after the 19th round, the public had grown familiar with the distribution points. She also said that this was done to save local residents and non-resident workers alike from repeatedly purchasing at the same sales points every 10 days, while also reducing the number of people gathering.
Alvis Lo Iek Long, clinical director of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, added that he will ensure the number of facemasks is sufficient for the next 30 days. He also emphasised the purpose of this adjustment was to facilitate the people and isn’t necessarily long-term.
