Gaming and junket activities’ share of Macao’s gross domestic product rose by 0.2 percentage points from 50.7 per cent in 2018 to 50.9 per cent last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

However, according to a DSEC statement this week, gross value added by gaming and junket activities declined year-on-year in real terms by 2.7 per cent last year. The sector’s gross value at current prices amounted to MOP 222.507 billion (US$27.8 billion) in 2018 and MOP 222.460 billion last year.

In 2019, the secondary sector (manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply as well as construction) contributed 4.3 per cent to GDP last year, while the tertiary sector (services) amounted to 95.7 per cent of GDP.

The contribution of Macao’s primary sector (fishing) to GDP is negligible and wasn’t included in the DSEC statement.

Last year’s gross value added at current prices stood at MOP 437.962 billion, a year-on-year drop of 2.4 per cent.
