Macau government sets up bureau for policy research & regional development

Executive Council spokesman Leong Heng Teng has announced that the Macau government will set up a bureau-level entity tasked with carrying out policy research and coordinating the various tasks by different official entities concerning Macau’s cooperation with the mainland.

TOP court orders government to reassess quotations for LRT depot project

The Court of Final Appeal (TUI) said in a statement yesterday that it has rejected an appeal by Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On against a ruling by the Court of Second Instance (TSI) in March, which determined that the government would need to reassess the rival quotations submitted by seven construction companies for the construction of the depot of the Light Rail Transit (LRT).

Light Rail Transit budget rises to US$ 2 billion: lawmaker

The government’s latest overall budget for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project amounts to 16.4 billion patacas ( US$ 2.05 billion) – but not including the still unscheduled LRT peninsula section, Mak Soi Kun, who heads the legislature’s Follow-up Committee for Public Finance Affairs, quoted government officials as saying.

Lawmaker resumes seat after suspension

Previously suspended lawmaker Sulu Sou Ka Hou resumed his seat in the Legislative Assembly (AL) Tuesday after the legislature had finally received a notification from the Court of First Instance (TJB) confirming that last month’s judgement which imposed a fine on him for illegal assembly and demonstration has become legally binding.

Suspended lawmaker withdraws appeal

Suspended directly-elected lawmaker Sulu Sou Ka Hou said in a statement Wednesday that he will withdraw his appeal – which he submitted on Monday – against last month’s ruling by the Court of First Instance (TJB) which found him guilty of illegal assembly and demonstration, adding that he will pay the fine imposed by the court so that he can resume his legislative duties as early as possible.

Taiwan mulls more flexibility for Macau people’s passports
