Macau, China, 25 Oct – Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On met with the honorary chairman of Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang (KMT) Wu Poh-hsiung during his official visit in Macau on Saturday.
Wu together with a prominent business delegation from Taiwan attended the 7th World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs at the Venetian Macau upon the invitation from the organiser World Federation of Chinese Entrepreneurs Organisation.
The Macau Government hence took the opportunity and hosted a luncheon at the Government Headquarters for the delegation.
According to a statement from the Government Information Bureau, the two sides had an active dialogue concerning how to promote development in the relationship between Macau and Taiwan and also to push forward in-depth bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
Wu Poh-hsiung said it was his second visit to Macau where he noticed significant changes and that the economy was prosperous.
He also said the 15th Macau International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) and the 7th World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs were being held successfully which had attracted a lot of Taiwanese businesspeople to come to the SAR.
Although Macau is a small place with a small population, Wu pointed out that the territory "is good at making use of the effects of economic value added".
According to The Macau Post daily, he also invited Fernando Chui Sai On to visit Taiwan "at a time appropriate to both sides".
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive stressed that the third-term SAR Government has attached great importance to the promotion of a closer tie with Taiwan.
He added that the Government "very much encourages" exchanges and cooperation between community organisations from both sides in terms of tourism, culture, sports, education and investment and trade.
