Galaxy Macau said on Sunday that it is offering complimentary accommodation or a restaurant experience for locals who successfully booked a stay at the hotel for MOP 10 (US$1.25) on the internet but were told later it was invalid as it was the result of a system error.
The statement, posted on the hotel’s social media page on Sunday, came after the company last week suggested guests who managed to get the MOP-10 room deal on June 23 contact their online travel agencies (OTAs) for free cancellation or reconfirm their booking at current rates.
According to netizens, those who got a booking confirmation for the MOP-10 room deal at the hotel were turned away when they tried to check in, and hotel staff allegedly even asked a guest to check out after having checked in already.
Galaxy confirmed on Wednesday that the deal was an error on certain hotel room booking platforms resulting in a discrepancy of the listed rates by third-party OTAs and the hotel’s offers, suggesting guests cancel their booking at their OTAs or reconfirm the new booking at current rates. This was not well received, based on netizens’ comments on the hotel’s social media page.
In Sunday’s statement, Galaxy said that “as a gesture of goodwill for any inconvenience or disappointments”, the hotel was offering “complimentary accommodation or restaurant experience to all affected bookers, and hope[s] to have the opportunity to welcome all guests back to Galaxy Macau as soon as possible”.
The statement also pointed out that “affected bookers” would be contacted by their OTAs, or people could email firstname.lastname@example.org for enquiries.
