The Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement iWednesday that its email account might have been accessed illegally, insisting that it has not sent any emails to any media outlets in the last few days.
The statement came after the bureau received enquiries from several local newspapers about a message that they received from the bureau’s email address on Tuesday night regarding next months’ legislative elections.
According to The Macau Post Daily, the email said that the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee (CAEAL) was looking into cases of illegal early campaigning by several electoral groups, adding that the groups will face legal action if it is confirmed that they have violated any laws.
But GCS said in its statement that it had not sent any emails to the local media regarding next month’s election, adding that it only transmits messages to the media through its password-protected Information Broadcast System (IBS).
The statement went on to say that someone might have used the bureau’s CTM email account to send out the message. The bureau said that it had notified the Judiciary Police (PJ) about the case.(macaunews)
