Macau observed this morning a three-minute silence for the victims of the nation’s novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, his five policy secretaries and chief-of-cabinet observed the three-minute silence at Government Headquarters from 10 a.m.
The Central People’s Government Liaison Office and a raft of local associations separately also observed the three-minute silence.
The day of mourning coincided with the annual Ching Ming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day) when families pay respects to their ancestors at cemeteries and temples.
All national and Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) flags are flying at half-mast today. The government and private entities have cancelled all celebratory and recreational activities for today.
Macau has confirmed 43 COVID-19 cases with no fatalities. The government has set up about 3,000 quarantine rooms in a dozen hotels.
