A record 3.086 million tourists visited Macau in August, up seven percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.
The bureau attributed the monthly record figure to the summer holidays.
The daily average of visitor arrivals reached 99,557 last month. Macau’s population stood at 624,000 at the end of June, the bureau said earlier.
Same-day visitors accounted for 54 percent of all visitor arrivals in August.
Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 69.1 percent and 20.6 percent of all visitor arrivals respectively.
The number of mainland visitors rose 13 percent year-on-year. Individual travellers accounted for 49.9 percent of all mainland visitors. The remainder visited Macau as members of tour groups.
The number of visitors from South Korea increased 20 percent year-on-year to 58,115. Visitors from the US rose 3.2 percent to 13,115.
Visitors’ average length of stay remained unchanged at just one day.
In the first eight months of this year, the number of visitor arrivals increased eight percent to 21.12 million.(macaunews/macaupost)
