A total of seven animal protection groups held a memorial service at Flora Garden on Saturday to commemorate Bobo, the city’s beloved Asiatic black bear that died on November 20.

The government’s decision to turn Bobo, the city’s beloved Asian black bear who died last Tuesday, into a specimen for display has angered many locals, with the Abandoned Animals Protect Association of Macau (AAPAM) starting a petition for people to sign this Saturday at Bobo’s former enclosure in Flora Garden.
The taxidermy of Bobo, Macau’s beloved Asian black bear that died last Tuesday, has already started and is slated to be completed within two weeks, Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) President Jose Tavares said on Saturday.
Plans proposed by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) to preserve the body of Bobo, the city’s beloved Asiatic black bear who died on Tuesday morning, have drawn considerable controversy among the local public, with a poster saying no to taxidermy to “respect” the ursine circulating online.
The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) is considering transferring ageing Asian black bear Bobo to Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane in order to allow him to enjoy his old age said IACM President Jose Fonseca Tavares.
