Up to 100 million trees will be planted over 1,850 square kilometres by 2052, offsetting an estimated 200,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
An exhibition entitled “Macao’s Mangroves: A Coastal Treasure” co-organised by the Institute of Science and Environment of the private University of Saint Joseph (USJ), non-governmental organisation Clean the World and gaming operator Sands Macao, is being held on the Catholic university’s Ilha Verde campus to present the natural environment of mangroves.
Environmental Protection Bureau will remove some of the polluted silt along Areia Preta district’s northern coast, and plant mangroves in the remaining silt to solve “once and for all” the waterfront stench.
