Live poultry imports will cease permanently due to concerns over the bird flu virus.
The decision was announced by the secretary for administration and justice, Sonia Chan.
From now on, Macau will only have frozen chicken, though it will be necessary to issue permits for the suppliers.
The decision follows the discovery of the H7N9 influenza virus in a sample from a wholesale market.
On average, 8,000 live poultry are imported everyday from China to Macau.
